Dirk Jarré, born 1941 in Frankfurt/Main. Studies in law and sociology. Scientific research for his doctorate and development work from 1966 to 1977 in Black Africa. 1979 to 2002 head of the international department of the “German Association for Public and Private Welfare”, Frankfurt/Berlin. Former president of the International Council on Social Welfare, ICSW, and of the Liaison Committee of NGOs in consultative status with the Council of Europe. Former vice-president of the Platform of European NGOs of the Social Sector - Social Platform - Brussels. Presently president of EURAG – the European Federation of Older Persons. 2000 to 2005 Vice-Chair of the UNECE Task Force “Monitoring the Regional Implementation Strategy on Ageing”. Until recently NGO representative in the Working Group on Ageing of the UNECE and in its Bureau. 2005 -2006 special advisor to the President of the “European Economic and Social Committee” of the European Union. Presently delegate in the “Consultative Committee on Industrial Change” of the EU. Has coordinated NGO involvement in the UNECE Ministerial Conferences on Ageing in Berlin 2002, in León 2007, in Vienna 2012 and in Lisbon 2017, including the respective NGO Fora. Since 2002 lecturer on “European and Comparative Social Policy” in master courses at Linz University, in Graz and at different Universities of Applied Sciences in Switzerland.
